JOIN IN THE FUN!!!

Join the first online class to a build a ship model interactively (well sort of) on the web! We are building  the Sultana, from the solid-hull kit manufactured by Model Shipways. This particular kit was selected because its an entry level kit that we feel could be easily completed in a short period of time. Its also a very complete kit in its instructions and plans, and the quality of the parts is very good. Most of the fittings are brass, the hull is machine carved, and there are several laser cut parts for the ships boat, etc. The price of the kit (about $70) is very reasonable. You can purchase the kit from your local hobby shop, or order it on the web from Model Expo (http://www.ModelExpoInc.com).

The duration of this web class, from start to finish, will vary from modeler to modeler. Some can finish it in a few months - for others it could take a year. But don't worry about your pace. Have fun and enjoy the process -regardless of your speed! There must always be time for breaks and vacations.

The finished model was on display at the Western Ship Model Conference and Exhibit in the year 2002. We invite you to join in future conferences and bring your model along.

Each phase in the development of the model is described in these pages. Notes for completing each phase are posted as outlined below, along with pictures of the 'work-in-progress' for completing that step.
